BETAcal in agriculture

Safeguarding long-term soil fertility is one of the key challenges facing modern agriculture. An important component of this is the planned liming of fields to maintain the soil’s pH value within the optimal range. This improves soil structure and ensures the lasting availability of nutrients.

Agricultural lime – a sustainable part of the nutrient cycle

A pH value balanced with agricultural lime makes it easier for plants to absorb such essential elements as phosphorus and potassium – directly or indirectly, via more intensive rooting and a more stable soil structure. Liming is therefore an important measure for improving water infiltration, water retention capacity, and aeration. Good soil structure is particularly important in the face of increasing climatic challenges, such as heavy rainfall and extended dry spells.

Our carbonate lime is effective not only in arable farming, but also works well as a bedding component, for example in dairy farming.

Natural fertiliser from the beet

We market our carbonate lime to agricultural operations under the trade name BETAcal. The lime is a by-product of sugar manufacturing, a mix of burnt limestone and mineral and organic residues from sugar beets that, as part of the processing, can‘t be used for sugar or animal feed production. This makes Pfeifer & Langen not only a manufacturer and supplier of high-quality sugar products, but also a producer of natural, beneficial agricultural lime.

Fertilising sustainably – for generations

With its sustainability characteristics, BETAcal offers a future-proof solution to the challenges of modern agriculture – and has done so for decades. BETAcal combines economic efficiency with ecological benefits and contributes importantly to the creation of closed nutrient cycles. You can obtain BETAcal from your crop consultant at Pfeifer & Langen or directly from the beet portal shop
